Aluminium plays a pivotal role in the drive towards sustainable mobility through improved electric vehicles. This one-day event welcomes policy makers, industry representatives, technical and scientific specialists, members of the press and anyone who’s interested in finding out more. Together, we’ll explore how an intricate web of policies, technology trends and market shifts converge to redefine sustainable mobility. And we’ll connect the dots between the big-picture implications and the accomplishments of the EU-funded SALEMA project. It’s a day dedicated to forging pathways to a greener, more efficient future for transport: come and join us at AutoWorld museum in Brussels from 09:00-18:00 CET on 21 March 2024!

The SALEMA project has developed and tested new aluminium alloys and recycling processes to boost Europe’s ability to re-use its aluminium supply in ways that benefit metal industry players, car manufacturers and car users. As the finale of this unique project, this day showcases key results and analyses how SALEMA’s innovations intersect with broader themes. The event brings together diverse perspectives on aluminium and its alloys as critical raw materials, and explores the implications for policy, technology and markets.Β

The morning session features a debate about European policy and legislation around critical raw materials and recycling in end-of-life vehicles. SALEMA partners will then take participants on a deep dive into the project’s outcomes and how the results support bigger-picture goals and needs.

Afternoon discussions investigate the significance of critical raw materials, the impact of design on the circularity of aluminium production processes, and strategies for optimal aluminium upcycling. A panel of experts will conclude the day by envisioning the future of EU-funded research projects such as SALEMA, setting the tone for continued collaboration and innovation.

Why take part?

This final SALEMA event will include:

  • diverse experts with extensive knowledge and experience in the aluminium and automotive industry;
